At Stannington, one of our aims is to reduce our waste. In the past we have provided paper bins to help recycle paper, reduced the amount of paper we use in lessons and provide electronic versions of documents/letters.

This year we are trying to reduce the amount of food waste during snack times and lunch times.  Below is a weekly chart of how much food is being wasted. We will monitor the amount and then during our next Green Team meeting we will think of ways to reduce it.

Our new battery recycling point at school.

We recently took part in Waste Week (March 2017) and ‘Use Less Stuff Day’.

During this week we had a fun, recycling crafts day where classes created collages of ‘The Twits’ and ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ for our displays. This was to celebrate our trips to the theatre and link in with our Literacy work.

The children took part by bringing in recycled items from home to be made into something new. We also held a ‘Toy Swap’ and many children benefited from bringing in unwanted toys and taking home something new to enjoy.
