Parents of Stannington First School rallied together big society style to help make a big difference to their small rural primary school. The Headteacher Helen Stokoe asked for help in tidying up the grounds and facade of the school. On a sunny Saturday morning in May parents and students gathered at the school to paint the fence and gates, remove old play equipment, clean the parents rain shelter and give the site a good old fashioned spring clean. Mrs Stokoe said “being such a small school we have a very small budget to take care of the grounds and rely on parental and staff support to ensure our site is presented in the best light”. The students served drinks and biscuits to parents and staff of the school who were willing to give up their own time help out.
