This afternoon, the children in the Early Years Foundation Stage Unit performed their Christmas Sing-a-Long for their mummies and daddies – what a wonderful performance it was! The children had learnt Christmas songs and Carols, including ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ (all the verses) and many, many more; well done to all the children and staff, you are all stars!
At Stannington First School we follow the Read Write Inc programme to teach our children how to read and write. We use this programme in Reception, KS1 and as intervention in KS2. In Nursery we use Phase 1 of the government programme ‘Letters and Sounds’ to develop good listening skills.
Our children are all settling in well and enjoying investigating all of the different activities available both inside and out. They have created beautiful self-portraits which are taking pride of place in the classroom. Attached is the topic sheet for this half term EYFS Topics Autumn Term 2013. This may change depending on the children’s particular interest.
PC Brown and his partner brought in the police dogs to show the children. He told pupils that police dogs were used to search for suspects, missing people and concealed objects. The dogs could also chase and detain people who run away from police, disarm violent criminals, and control hostile crowds. The pupils really enjoyed learning about the Police dogs. A big Thank you to PC Brown and his partner.
The children dressed up as knights, princesses, kings, queens and dragons for our end of topic celebration. We cooked soup, bread and Pokerounce – a honey dessert. It was hard work cooking it on the open fire. We enjoyed the castle entertainment in the afternoon. The circle dancing was great fun but the jousting tournament seemed to be the favourite activity. What a great day!
