Yesterday, we took the year 3s to Newburn Leisure Centre for their first session at the climbing wall. They were all fantastic and are excited to be going back over the next two weeks.

Orienteering medal ceremony!

We were delighted this morning when John, who had worked with us during orienteering, arrived for a surprise visit. He had come especially to Stannington to award some of our Year 4s some prizes following their recent trip to the orienteering festival at Wallington. Several children were awarded bronze or silver medals for their performance within their age group. One pair were also awarded the bronze medal for the county championships – wow, what an achievement!

Well done to all our Year 4s who participated so enthusiastically in this event.

Year 3 Geocaching

On Wednesday 15th June during the afternoon, our Year 3s visited Plessey Woods to try geocaching. We followed the GPS route and managed to find two geocaches during the session. It was a beautiful afternoon for walking in the woods (if a little muddy)!

Year 4 at Chantry Mini-Olympics

On Wednesday 15th June, our Year 4 children visited Chantry Middle School during the morning for a Mini-Olympics event. The children were mixed into different groups and so it was a great opportunity for our Year 4s to make friends with people who they will be going to school with in September.

Year 3/4 Skipping Festival

Today, children in years 3 and 4 attended the Skipping Festival in Morpeth. Every member of the class competed in at least one event, against children from three other local schools and in front of lots of cheering spectators! They spent some time learning new skipping skills and also presented a skipping dance to all of the other children.

All of the Stannington children tried really hard and we were very proud of the effort which they put in – some of them even came back to school with certificates.

Well done!

Rugby World Cup Competition

At lunch time the children have been participating in our own version of the Rugby World Cup! Lots of children from Years 1 to 4 signed up and were paired up and assigned countries. Next week we play round 2 and we will post the scores of each pairing/country before playing the finals.
