Christmas Fair

On Friday we held our Christmas Fair, it was a very exciting afternoon, we had a visit from Father Christmas and there were lots of stalls and games to play in the Hall.  All the children had made things to sell at the fair and we were delighted that everything sold out !

The staff and PTA worked so hard to make this event a success, we were absolutely amazed when we counted up the money raised and it was in excess of £400!  Mr T (as ICT Co-ordinator) is already looking through catalogues to find us the best deal on new equipment!  Thanks very much everyone for coming and helping this be a success.

Djembe drumming concert

This morning we had a concert of Djembe drumming by Owls, it was fantastic!!  The children were amazing – everyone was so impressed.  All the parents, staff and children thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to the different pieces….. and then the mums, dads and grandparents had a go themselves (they weren’t quite as good as the children though).  There will be clips of the concert on the website soon – we could maybe even audition for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ next year!

Children in Need

Well done everyone – we have raised £73.65 for Children in Need!  An amazing total for a small school.  A big ‘Thank You’ to all the super face painters who came in and worked so hard painting everyone’s faces in record time; also to Lewis Henry’s Mum who has been in school all day with her box of Pudsey activities for Swifts.  Have a lovely weekend!

Diwali Day

Another special day is happening in school today – everyone is taking part in a Diwali Day.  The children all met in the hall to watch a clip about how Diwali is celebrated, then they went off into house groups to take part in different activities.  There are lots of  learning experiences happening – the photos will follow.

The Three Rivers Learning Trust Ltd

I have been asked by the Directors of the Three Rivers Learning Trust (Chantry Middle School, Newminster Middle School and The King Edward VI High School) to advise the parents of Stannington First School that there is a consultation regarding the changes that the Trust is making to their Admissions Criteria for September 2014.  The consultation will run from 12 November 2012 until January 2013.  You will be able to view the consultation documents on the link below.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school everyone, it is good to see that you have all come back to school ready and raring to learn!  The work that has been going on today on our special Bonfire Day is wonderful – it is part of the ‘uniqueness’ of Stannington the way that the children all work together and this especially seen on days like today when the Hedgehogs and Badgers  are working alongside the Swifts and Owls in their house groups.  Sam, in the kitchen, made a delicious Bonfire Lunch, which was eaten by some very hungry and appreciative children!

Halloween Party

Last night was our annual Halloween Party organised by our P.T.A. – we think it was even better than last year (if that is possible!)  Everybody had made such an effort with their costumes – some were really frightening.  The room looked fantastic – as was the food!  The games were great fun –  musical statues, corners, mummy wrapping, duckie apple and much more – Mr T particularly enjoyed supervising the ‘put your hand into the box or bucket to find a prize’. A big ‘Thank you’ to all the mums for their wonderful organisation!

Action Saturday

A big thank you to all the children, parents, staff and grandparents, not forgetting Peter the gardener, who came to school today to help create the Sensory Garden and tidy the grounds.  Everyone worked so hard to get all the jobs done, the children will be thrilled on Monday to see  all the work that has been done.

Stannington Show

Wow!  We did extremely well at the show, lots of our entries won prizes.  The show was a definite success, I haven’t seen so many people at the show before.

Well done to everyone who took part, I am proud of you all.

Stannington Show

The children have been very busy all week preparing entries for the show tomorrow.  We have more entries than before this year!  We have entered the following competitions:- scarecrow, biscuits, fairy cakes, handwriting, picture of a farm animal, miniature garden, biggest marrow and a model of a farm animal.  Please come along from 1 p.m. tomorrow to look at the wonderful entries.
